Okay, so as I start, it's currently 11:02 pm here in Istanbul, and my eyes are closing slowly slowly. I would really love to share some basic info about myself and my story, but right now, I just don't have the energy - it has been a LONG day. I will, however allocate a post sometime this week for my life story so that we're all on the same page, since this post will be a bit random considering it's my first blog and there's not much background info haha...
Finally, another job...I have been here in Istanbul for now 3 weeks and 2 days, and had only booked 4 jobs up until today. Finally got my 5th job today - what a relief... Nothing exciting, as per usual, just some online job which pays crap to say the least. But hey, money is money, and money is needed to pay the excessive amount of expenses - every job - big or small contributes. :)
Call time - 7:45 am and as per usual i'm the last one to climb into the van haha...Don't really have an excuse, other than I took a really loooong shower...no regrets, it was great! hehe ;)
Get to the building - which I was pleasantly surprised with, as I expected another broken-down rural-looking building with minimal paint. Waited an hour (without WiFi) for the client to finally show up, then waited about another hour to get started on hair and makeup (so a lot of waiting, which is a common thing in this industry). After clearly having an amateur makeup "artist/hair stylist" work on my face and put a dent in my hair, we got ready to shoot.
I'm not going to lie, some of the clothes we shot today were quite exciting, very 'business womanish!' Just happy that it wasn't pajamas that we had to shoot - makes a change! After about 2 hours of shooting outfit after outfit, 1 pm came and it was time for lunch - probably the most exciting part of my day haha! We headed to a huge modern looking cafeteria room where all the employees of the building came together to munch. On offer were roasted potatoes, white rice, doner chicken/beef, salad, soups, some strange Turkish yogurt + cucumber concoction and 3 plums in a small plastic tub as dessert. So obviously I took everything except those basic white carbs (as this model has some baby fat to lose lol!) It was pleasantly satisfying. No complaints there.
Immediately after, we pop outside for a smoke break (I don't smoke, just accompanying the clients) then head back to the studio to carry on shooting.
150 outfits later, its a wrap and it was finally time to call the driver. That was at about 6:15 pm.
You can imagine one would be quite exhausted after slipping in and out of just over 150 garments, and that's exactly how I felt - exhausted. All I wanted to do, was to go straight home and relax but nooooo as per usual the agency surprise us with late castings. So off we went to the last casting of the day which all the models in Istanbul attended... Waited 2 hours to start and when it was eventually our turn, not one head was turned. What a waste of precious time - seriously...The client didn't even take my card, I could swear it was as if they didn't even see me in the room....but whatever, that's how it is. Some you win, some you lose - miserably haha!
On the bright side we headed home immediately after that epic failure of a casting. I was only too happy to get back into our scruffy model apartment.
